印度指控国际学生通过加拿大被贩运至美国

India's law enforcement agencies claim to be investigating links between several Canadian colleges and two entities in Mumbai accused of trafficking students to the U.S.-Canada border.

On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate of India reported uncovering significant evidence of human trafficking during searches across multiple cities. The Directorate specializes in probing money laundering and foreign exchange violations.

The allegations remain untested in court. Neither the Canadian government, the RCMP, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, nor Canadian college representatives have commented. The U.S. embassy also declined to provide any remarks.

Last month, a Minnesota jury convicted Steve Shand from Florida and Indian national Harshkumar Patel, arrested in Chicago, on charges of smuggling and profiting from unauthorized individuals entering the U.S.

据检方称，Harshkumar Patel负责协调一个复杂的运作，而Shand则是司机。Shand原计划在明尼苏达州边境接走11名印度移民，但只有7人成功跨越边境，其余人因严寒死亡。

Prosecutors described Harshkumar Patel as the mastermind of the operation and Shand as the driver. Shand was to pick up 11 Indian migrants, but only seven survived the treacherous crossing.

Dubbed the "Dingucha Case" in India after the family's village in Gujarat, the Directorate conducted searches in Mumbai, Nagpur, Gandhinagar, and Vadodara.

The agency alleges that Bhavesh Ashokbhai Patel helped individuals enroll in Canadian colleges to secure student visas, but they never attended classes, opting instead to cross into the U.S.

执法局还指出，涉案“实体”每年向印度以外的学院推荐约25,000名学生，其中超过10,000名学生被推荐到加拿大。

According to the Directorate, the involved entities referred around 25,000 students annually to foreign colleges, including over 10,000 to Canadian institutions.

The revelations come amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and India over border security and increased scrutiny of Canada's immigration and foreign relations policies.
